A used yacht advertised as having lithium may have anything from a professionally integrated system to batteries dropped into an old lead-acid installation. The battery brand alone does not reveal installation quality.
Key design checks
- Identify battery model, age, serial numbers and BMS type.
- Record every charging source and its lithium settings.
- Inspect main fuse, switch, busbars, cable sizes and terminations.
- Ask for installation invoices, diagrams, manuals and commissioning records.
- Check whether the alternator charging method was modified.
